I have heard that modern Corian countertops (or generic brands making Corian®-style countertops) are quite durable, and somewhere in price between linoleum and stone.

Granite countertops are in a totally different price range from Corian or laminate, for example (in both cost of materials & cost of installation).

Maybe my 30 year old totally fake Corian is back in style.

Things like Corian (a kind of silica-plastic composite) is popular in kitchens.

For instance, is Corian or Granite safer and more environmentally friendly?

I've been saying this since the early 2000s when I saw even lower end new construction getting Corian or granite countertops as standard.

We decided on Corian countertops--it's basically a plastic resin, a bit scratchable (but on the flip side it's full depth material so you can buff out some damage), but totally waterproof and no grout lines.

Corian isn't engineered stone under the Australian definition.

Corian-type materials are probably more practical.
