As a former commando turned programmer I've long been wondering how best to express the commando mindset in programmers terms.

A man standing idly with a knife is not the same as some sort of ninja commando running towards you at full speed.

Attempting to get the Troika (EU, IMF, ECB) to bend in the negotiations was a suicide commando in the first place.

The last thing you wanted to do was to kill someone's best friend and have them go super suicide commando on you.

But then they wouldn't get to use all the paramilitary gear and act like they are some special Commando unit or something.

Until Linus goes commando and rewrites the scheduler, like he did with git, yeah.

In my experience they definitely commend themselves vis-a-vis FSMs in commando ops (i.e.

Yeh I know a few people who went into the Legion and I think it's whole methodology messes you up way more than a conventional military and/or commando unit in a place like the UK or US.

But for sure, Its important to recognize that this is what the growth pattern looks like, and does highlight that needs and roles change; if you can't or won't, you gotta go - not because you're a horrible commando, but because they only need infantry now.

That said, being the "commando" can be exhausting, and I wouldn't want to do it all the time.

In a company run by "police" interns are often asked to do the "Commando" type work.
