circumlocutory

I do agree that tv makes people dumb, but really what a circumlocutory way to get to the point. Might as well been wiser off agreeing with the article's headline and buzzing away.

Well that was a circumlocutory way of saying, "We got scared by the prospect of negative press and our knee-jerk reaction was to fire someone."

The article in question, however, is written in a circumlocutory style that suggests more effort was put into the style than the substance. I admit that it's possible that the signal to noise ratio in the article is better than I assumed, but I don't have to subject myself to tedious writing when there is so much good stuff I could be reading instead.

In short, while his objectives may be good lessons for people that write in unclear, logically incoherent or circumlocutory ways, he seems to tend toward very extreme reductions. It is a necessary part of intellectual development to learn to grapple with the complexity that inheres in many facets of existence, and that includes gestalt complexity that cannot be reduced to very simple atoms as, for example, in the ontology Functional Programming preaches.

The year I spoke, I talked in a really circumlocutory way about names and URLs; other speakers included the guy who designed the new UK coinage, a guy who built a zoetrope out of a pair of Technics decks, one of the UK's top graphic designers doing a talk on the connections between music and design whilst playing along, projector remote mounted on the top horn of his guitar... Basically, Newspaper Club rock.
