What really provokes a bull is the movement of the matador's cape during a bullfight, [etc...] > How many archangels are there?

I understand the bullfight is also a political wedge issue in spain and portugal, where progressives ban it and traditionalists promote it.

This apparently made many people think that that's basically what happens in a bullfight.

I thought that it was dated (the Spanish watching a bullfight when the aliens came, oh c’mon!).

Of course, if you hadn't read the book you'd not have a clue about the bullfight motifs and probably not enjoy that arc at all.

Same for temple elephants, bullfight bulls, snakes etc.

Spoiler: in a bullfight, the matador does nasty things to the bull (like sticking short spears with hooks so that they don't come out when the bull moves), dodges the bull's charge while distracting it with a cape, and in the end he kills it with a sword through the back.

Spaniard here (I don't like bullfighting AT ALL, I despise it, but just for the sake of explanation) Bullfight is not considered a "sport" in any way.
