Runescape was made to be botted to begin with as a bink to gold selling chads.

It turns out that unlike many of the technologies ScummVM reverse-engineers and reimplements, the Bink video codec is still commercially available, and the Bink people refused to let ScummVM release their reverse-enigneered decoder.

Not sure where the trickiness lies but certainly in 2005 Source was very different (no Bink video, only DirectX 9 renderer etc).

Most people only use the system browser, which can be whatever Webkit version depending on the iOS or Android version, Bink or mobile IE.

Source does, although within the last year they replaced Miles for MP3 and Rad Games Tools for Bink with tinymp3 and free WebM library.

I don't think Casey has ever claimed to be the developer of Bink 2.

And Bink has a U32 or u32 typedef that conflicted with the same one in the code I was working on at the time.

Apparently Bink requires separate licenses per platform.

Not necessarily asking you specifically, but posting here because I noticed it on their website that you linked: How is Bink video still a thing?

If you buy in to 20 $1000 tournaments, bink one of them for $15K, you're on top of the world, but guess what, you're a losing poker player.

This led me to find that he works at RAD Game Tools and that Rad (who I know of because of the Bink video codec) is now owned by Epic Games.

If you're not breastfeeding (or if you're like me and you're the night-time parent but have no breasts) then a bink can be pretty clutch in terms of getting the kid to sleep so you can go to work in the morning.

As the developer of the "Bink 2" video codec[1] and the animation tool "Granny 3d"[2], his code powers thousands of games.

(For other examples, the game industry is full of well known third-party "middleware" like Bink, SpeedTree, and much more because those middleware like to force their logos into places for advertising as a part of their licensing terms.

I've seen game devs who I genuinely believe on this say things to the effect of "Oh yeah, we'd totally open source dead game X, except we'd have to port it away from Bink and Havok and XYZ, and we don't have the time to do that for 0 revenue"

Many video games already do this with all the proprietary middleware they use (Bink, SpeedTree, PhysX, etc).

Bink can handle 4K HDR decoding even without hardware accelerator chips by using regular GPU shaders.

It's rather open, which I appreciate (I suppose it's partly why so many companies licence Bink).
