It shocked me back then, so hearing that anti-psychotics are amongst the highest these days is no surprise, unfortunately.

A lot of anti-psychotics increase appetite massively and are known to cause weight gain.

To take the atypical anti-psychotics as an example, it turns out they or at least some of them are good mood stabilizers, i.e.

Sedatives, anti-psychotics, mood stabilizers - all have a decidedly negative effect on creativity.

This is how the newer generation of anti-psychotics got approved, and it's also how Nexium got approved even though it's basically chemically identical to Prilosec.

What if it's necessary drugs, like anti-psychotics?

Unfortunately, this can often only be done with the use of anti-psychotics, which can sometimes cause horrible side effects; in some cases so horrible they affect someone's life more than the psychosis itself.

As far as I know, all atypical anti-psychotics have been black boxed (major league warning) for treating the elderly with dementia, the side effects in them are worse than the benefit.

Never, in my personal experience, have any medical personnel made a big deal about those side effects of "good" drugs like anti-psychotics, stabilizers, or anti-depressants.
