However, another big advantage to a VPN for me is anonimity, not directly giving the site information on who you are.

Unfortunately, behind the anonimity of the internet, trolls and disgusting people will harass pretty much anyone and there's not much anyone can do.

Tor is designed to be a good tool for privacy and anonimity.

I would still recommend I2P for a project like this, anonimity is the key goal here.

Anonimity ensures that even if you do fuck up, you still arn't ostracized, the benefit being that you will take risks and maybe make something amazing.

Anonimity would probably be mandatory for success.
