The attention Wyden gets as being the anti-surveillance guy in Congress says more about Congress than it does about Wyden.

Perhaps if the tech community pulled together, somebody like Wyden could cross the aisle and make it a bipartisan filibuster.

At least this time Wyden and Rand Paul are doing something about it.

Don't act like Clapper is some sort villain but Wyden is a hero.

It's illegal for Clapper to disclose classified information publicly, but as a sitting senator, Wyden would have immunity for anything brought to the Senate floor.

And if not, what evidence do you have, and do you believe Wyden is a liar because he intended to mislead people by saying the following?

Since a district court ruled that the bulk collection is already illegal under the current law and Rand Paul and Ron Wyden are threatening to filibuster the renewal of the expiring Patriot Act, it seems that civil rights hawks currently have the upper hand, or at least an advantageous bargaining position.

And then Senator Wyden's breathless, almost resigned, "Alright" at the end.

Wyden's bill can't prevent Congress from passing that bill, and, when they do, they don't even have to mention the Secure Data Act; they'll just authorize backdoors "notwithstanding any other provision of law".

According to The Verge[0], Senator Wyden -- who I trust very much in these matters -- said the passage of this bill is "the most significant victory for Americans’ privacy rights in more than a decade." That gives me some hope that this bill represents actual change.

Wyden is an elected representative - he has a duty to act in the best interests of his constituents.

Wyden clearly knew the answer to his question and wanted the public to know it.

There were motions to extend the Patriot Act by just a few days (even one more day), all objected to by Rand Paul/Ron Wyden.
