I'd particularly recommend checking out the compleseus layer, which is a composition of consult, orderless, vertico, and embark.

I like helpful.el for a nicer/more thorough interface that's not quite info, and I really like vertico/consult/marginalia for making M-x nicely searchable with hints and stuff.

The reason is simply that I think it provides capabilities for: - great devdocs and info pages integration - automations (compile project, set up project specific bindings etc.) - email (mu4e) - navigation (vertico + ripgrep integrations) - note-taking (howm) - magit for git handling...

Vertico add incremental completion and present the candidates in a vertical list, so it’s more like filtering than completions.

I feel that Emacs has some really innovative UI plugins (things like Vertico) but the out-of-the-box experience is pretty bad.

Vertico and Consult are the successors to Ivy and Counsel.
