In the Prose Edda, Snorri Sturluson describes the Vikings as being descended from Trojans.

Some context -- Snorri has 500 years of dark-ages obscuring whatever he wants to say [1].

In the Prose Edda, Snorri Sturluson states the gods are human descendants of Trojan heroes.

It's also when Snorri was writing down the oral stories of the vikings.

Another one, Snorri Sturluson, is responsible for writing down much of the Norse mythology that we know of today.

Heimskringla was written by Snorri Sturluson, who was not Norwegian but an Icelander.

Since we have no pre-Christian sources to compare to, it is hard to say how fairly Snorri represent the tradition.

They only really took to writing after they converted to Christianity, which is why we have stuff like Snorri Sturluson's Eddas.

In Snorri Sturluson's 13th century telling of the flood after Ymir's death, Bergelmir and his wife escaped by holding on to a hollowed-out tree trunk.

Something like Snorri Sturlosson might've slipped into the prose Edda?

I am utterly unconvinced that what Snorri writes is what the original Vikings believed.

A great example about lost work is that the insights we have onto Viking mythology was pretty much documented by a single guy, Snorri Sturluson.

The earliest primary citation for the word "vikingr" is in reference to a saga written by Snorre/Snorri (an Icelandic historian), who was born in the late 12th century.

The word is old Norse of course but as far as I know was not used by Snorri.

Snorri Sturulson definitely used the word viking if, as most scholars hold, he was the author of Egil’s Saga.

Snorri was also a Christian writing about his culture's former pagan beliefs to a Christian audience.
