I myself now use Ansible to bootstrap SaltStack and let SaltStack do the heavy lifting.

On the other hand, SaltStack needs to be setup on the minions first, whereas with Ansible you only need SSH.

Our technology stack on the server involves Python 3, Django, Ngingx, ZeroMQ and SaltStack.

But Jinja2 is the default in a lot of projects, including Saltstack and Ansible, and it's hard to fight the currents all the time.

I wanted to have a working cluster from scratch which meant not using saltstack and any of kubernetes helper scripts.

SaltStack feels much more feature-complete and much more powerful to me.

Puppet, Chef and Saltstack are all fantastic tools.

I lean more towards Python these days because of tools like SaltStack and Ansible and great library support, and because it fits my brain better.

At the moment I'm writing some CFM code using saltstack with the xapi and virt for my own stuff, as I'm not a huge fan of the xenserver and xen cloud platform abstractions.

OK I am gonna ask the obvious question here: How does Ansible compare to Saltstack?

Tools like Ansible, Saltstack, Chef, Puppet, and each one's supporting libraries and plugins.
