Rule #1 in any first-responder situation is to keep the rescuer safe. There are tons and tons of examples where rushing led to mistakes that killed the rescuer AND the patient.

To me, part of the reason why is that they confuse who the actor and who the responder is. To assume there are all these different lives, you must assume that there are all of these different social groups that "tell" you what to do and how to act.

All else being equal, you don't want your front-line emergency responder to have to understand complex failover logic. There is nobody more frustrated than an ops engineer who can't make the system use the primary database because some stupid bot keeps forcing the use of the secondary, or vice versa.

I've been in that situation before, I've been the first responder on site and while I have limited medical knowledge I knew enough to check pulses and verify that people were "okay", as soon as the second and third people showed up I started yelling orders at them. For some reason this causes them to do without asking "why" whatever you are telling them to do.

If I understand the argument there correctly, the responder is saying: Nobody should ever use this functionality, instead they should always check that the date is not None. So, we should leave this broken, because we don't want to break backwards-compatibility with that class of applications that nobody should ever write.

It seems a lot of these examples are from 'internet marketing businesses' or people selling info products on "how to make money online" or "how to create an email auto responder".
