My great great grandfathers hand saw, and my fathers Rancilio Silvia espresso machine (gen one).

Although I've been regularly fixing my Baratza grinder and Rancilio Silvia for years the fact is that disassembling hardware and tightening screws still looks slightly scary and dangerous.

I use Rancilio Hd Silvia & Vario grinder, it is very durable and allows me make high quality coffee.

Actually the most loved consumer espresso machines (the gaggia mentioned in the article and the rancilio Silvia) are analog and don't have Firmware.

Get a used Rancilio Silvia + do a fully fledged Gaggiuino build.

Do you have any parts recommendations for Rancilio Silvias?

A vibratory pump is very good at controlling pressure as demonstrated by the Decent espresso machine the Gaggiuino mod and whatever that Rancilio Silva mod is called.

Now people talk about the ritual of the Moka pot but with the Rancilio there's another attraction for the engineer/mechanical tinker types: the Rancilio is built to be maintainable and so once a year (after 15) I end up taking it apart and replacing something.

At the other end of the scale, and making coffee that I’m not sure I could tell apart, is the cult classic, the Rancilio Silvia.

Heck, even a good, “real” espresso machine and grinder (like a Rancilio Silvia and Bartza Vario, entry level coffee geek favourites) combo will set you back around $1k.

For them, I'd rather recommend a good super automatic than a manual like the Rancilio.
