My Titanium PowerBook G4 purchased in 2000 was my main machine for _everything_ for seven years or so.

My second favorite computer to write (my main job), to this day, is still a Powerbook 1400c running System 7.

This has been an issue with the PowerBook G4 models in the past as well.

And who doesn't remember the Mac SE, the Mac II, the first PowerBook?

My old G4 powerbook ran hotter than my current MacBook Pro.

I have a PowerBook G4 running OpenBSD 5.6 that I suppose I could test with, though Firefox has traditionally been pretty slow on that particular machine.

I had hangup-on-resume experience on powerbook too.

I'm not the parent commenter, but I personally run OpenBSD on a pretty wide variety of hardware, most recently (among laptops, that is) a PowerBook G4 and a Dell Latitude D830.

Apple is driving most of the major advances in personal computing: since the 90s virtually every laptop has been a clone of the 1992 PowerBook -- until recently when a market developed for MacBook Air clones.

* Both the PowerBook and the Latitude required the use of fw_update to install nonfree firmware (for the Broadcom-based Airport wireless NIC and the Intel PRO Wireless 3495abg-or-whatever wireless NIC, respectively).

Not sure whether the interface elements are too big for this display size, but intuitively the resolution sounds about right, it's about the same as the old (beloved) Powerbook 12'' as far as I remember.

Most things work out-of-the-box, but there are a few exceptions: * Power management is nonexistent on PowerPC hardware, so I currently have to shut down my PowerBook between uses, since I can't put it in standby.

My 15.4" powerbook works fine for me, but I also use an USB apple keyboard, just so much more comfortable.

I'd have bought a 12" Powerbook if those had survived the Intel switch.

Too bad they don't make the 12" Powerbook anymore.

Though, my 15" rMBP is slightly lighter and 40% thinner than the 12" PowerBook G4 that used to be the height of portability not too long ago.

I used abuse an old Powerbook's CPU by using Logic's Time Machine at the maxium settings and clicking through the all the warnings that it might harm the processor, and repeat several times.
