Even though the models were largely also post-factum models as in their case (i.e., the code was there first, and models were built later on), this worked for us since the models really were aimed at capturing the implementation's behavior.

However, post-factum, it seems very natural thing to do - I might probably do it if/when I ever interview for a position where it is relevant (though I might just bring a tablet in and show some code in opensource repose).

If you understand how this all works it's really no surprise that reasoning post-factum is exactly as hallucinated as the answer itself and might have very little to do with it and it always has nothing to do with how the answer actually came to be.

I think we can excuse humanity from wanting to "learn from our mistakes" so to say, but to keep in mind that nuclear war isn't really a mistake we'd have much option to learn from post-factum.

It is a human nature to overreact (post-factum) to an unlikely event to the extent that most languages have a dedicated saying ("having burned yourself on hot milk, one now blows on water" is the non-English version I heard as a kid).

Post-factum searching for (perceived) oddities and calculating probabilities of their occurences in uniform distributions shows some misunderstanding of statistics.
