Laszlo Polgar and his wife are both obsessively ambitious and quite intelligent, and Laszlo even obsesses about chess.

Chess Grandmaster Susan Polgar learned (inadvertently, perhaps) from a very young age because of her father's training.

Caplan's thesis suggests that if raised by others, the Polgar girls might merely have picked up poker or math rather than chess.

If one of the Polgar daughters had been adopted, this would lead more credence to theory that practice by itself leads to excellence.

So I am starting to lean towards the fact that all three Polgar sisters were gifted to some extent.

Another case in point: the Polgar sisters[1][2][3], raised by their father[4] to prove the point that "geniuses are made, not born".

My kid is only 3, but I know some "genius" kids started at age 4 (like Mozart, or Tiger Woods or the Polgar sisters).

Judit Polgar is not "a product of the 10,000 hour rule." While it's true that she devoted an extreme amount of dedicated practice, she also showed extreme talents from a very early age.

Not only Polgar, also the other examples I read about in "Bounce" (for example there was apparently a Russian "factory" for tennis stars).

If you google for Polgar, only few things come up, mostly chess related, which isn't the point at all.

Caplan's empirical results certainly don't rule out effects from extremely non-standard (e.g., Polgar) parenting techniques.
