pmtiles

There is already a PMTiles PR that updates the byte that specifies the type of tile to include MLT.

We generated a single ~900 MB PMTiles file from OpenStreetMap (Australia only, up to Z14) and uploaded it to S3.

Don't know about pmtiles specifically, but on tile servers I've used it's possible to update administrative regions separately.

PMTiles is actually pretty agnostic to what kind of tiles it contains!

You may want to look into the PMTiles format and tippecanoe.

I asked a cursor agent to do the same for a geotiff to pmtiles converter.

I’ve found it so useful I created an Elixir library to act as a cache in front on a pmtiles file.

We recently deployed a solution that uses pmtiles and it's great.

Oh pmtiles is such a simple and innovative solution!

Have used pmtiles to self-host a “find your nearest store” map, which only needed to cover Australia.

If you’ve seen Atlas/SDK approaches: this is intentionally smaller and “appliance-like” (PMTiles + Valhalla + SQLite geocoder) to be friendlier to edge hardware and simple ops.

And yes, Corviont is intentionally a stack of separable services behind one gateway - so "geocoder-only" is exactly the kind of config I want to support (skip PMTiles + Valhalla and ship only the SQLite index + reverse API).
