Even worse, it used to be a downy woodpecker,and it’s now been replaced by a pileated one (think: Woody).

And 9 out of 10 times you can show them a picture of a pileated, and they instantly realize their mistake.

It's interesting something so similar looking to the Pileated Woodpecker went extinct so easily.

The videos are amazingly bad with nothing in them couldn't be a pileated that I saw.

Or take birding: I can see a pileated woodpecker on YouTube any time, but to see one in person, what bliss!

The size of Pileated makes it so special to see!

Just some blurry pictures and video[0] (from 2005) that some have inferred shows its flight pattern is that of an ivory billed and not of a pileated.

Not the same species at all, but you just reminded me of the family of three Pileated Woodpeckers that I saw with my parents this summer in rural NY.

And it’s not like wooden houses are any better than concrete/stones ones, I would love to see what termites will do to one in few years, or even pileated woodpeckers, they do a very deep and big holes in trees.

I had no idea what "pileated" meant until recently when I looked it up, but I've known what a pileated woodpecker is since I was a kid.

The imagined calls can't be meaningfully distinguished from a pileated without further evidence, and the "double-tap" is not unambiguous evidence either.
