I am one of the fools who bought an optimus popularis - it's optimus lame.

It has two flaws: One, it has nVidia Optimus (that just suck, whoever implemented it should be shot).

It's got good performance and handles Linux well, except for Optimus support which is still not great.

DO NOT buy a laptop with optimus if you are planning on using linux.

What has kept me from using FreeBSD (or other bsds) in the past on my laptop was lack of nvidia optimus support.

The 2gb nvidia optimus video incompatability with linux sealed the deal.

My Lenovo Y50 has an nVidia GPU with Optimus switching.

It goes under the name Optimus VI with PC Specialist.

Away from the desk, I use my Android phablet - an LG Optimus Pro.

It does have the Optimus graphics stuff but I haven't bothered with it.

I kept an LG Optimus for 3 years, to the point that I replaced it when I couldn't reliably make a phone call.

Finally, a less expensive Optimus Popularis!

Almost did, until I realized just how large the 17" gaming laptop I bought actually was, and how terrifically awful NVidia Optimus is for the Oculus Rift.

I for one would be more likely to buy a cyanogenmod supported phone than a 'touchwiz', 'optimus' or "Windows 8" phone if I was assured of two year updatability.

I have an Optimus, and it mostly gathers dust as the oled drivers on it kick out a mindblowingly annoying ~18KHz whine, and I therefore can't bear to use it unless wearing headphones.
