If that's the issue, then why consider moving to OpenGL and SDL 2?

Adobe Air is still slow on iOS compared to UIKit or OpenGL.

I've written small games and OpenGL demos using PySDL2 and PyOpenGL in Python 3.

It works well enough on Android and Palm Pre, although without the fancy OpenGL-accelerated CSS transforms (it gracefully degrades to more traditional CSS animations if WebKit transitions are not available).

I don't see what Nvidia's motivation for the last part is unless Microsoft said "Don't bother including all of the OpenGL capabilities, DirectX is fine for basic drivers."
