Saying its made of Nitinol means nothing to a lot of average consumers.

Maybe the simplest approach mechanically would be to have Nitinol wires running vertically, parallel to the 'weft' thread.

On the return side, hidden underneath the display, the Nitinol wires could be returned to their original state.

Unfortunately this company found that nitinol wasn't enough by itself to give good tire properties, for one I think there were issues with traction.
