The second is direct object manipulation via morphic, which is quite different from manipulating the program via its code.

I was curious about the thoughts of Morphic vs MVC as well given that Squeak seems to have gone Morphic based and the Self GUI was entirely Morphic.

Smalltalk with its Morphic interface offers a much richer and flexible GUI toolkit and that was out when, in the 60s?

Which is where all the woo about panpsychism and morphic resonance and whole series of theories that make consciousness into some weird thing outside our universe.

GUI wise Pharo inherited its GUI API, Morphic from Squeak.

Don't get me wrong, I think Morphic is a pretty slick system, but still...

Squeak and Pharo's Morphic UI also came from Self.

I haven't used Morphic in years (and I used it in Squeak).

LT didn't bring any new inventions, emacs, self, morphic, CL, they've all done some aspect of it 30 years earlier.

It has Morphic with a snapshot of Squeak which is fair enough but it'd be nice to also include Self[1] which is where Morphic came from and which has I think a nicer implementation[2] of visual programming.

And take morphic: where you can change the state (by directly manipulating objects) but not the code, so if you change something driven by code, your changes are completely ephemeral.

The talk didn't get "banned", it was merely disavowed by the TED organization, which interprets their mandate "ideas worth spreading" as excluding blatant pseudoscience such as the idea of "morphic resonance".

So when Hancock invented this term called "live programming" back in 2003, he was focusing on the code (keep in mind, this work exists in a world where Smalltalk is well known, the Morphic paper came out in 1995, and Seymour Papert of Mindstorms/Logo fame is Hancock's adviser).

I've heard about Morphic, but I haven't been able to find out too much about it on the web.

And Morphic/Smalltalk was cross-platform before Java, in ways Java isn't to this day.

I don't understand why Squeak or Self (with or without Morphic) would be considered visual programming languages.
