The usual response is minify + gzip, but it's not a panacea.

How do you minify and concatenate your files in your projects?

Let's say you create an application to minify javascript.

There's a difference between being the middle man so you can minify for the user, and logging all that goes through you.

Though we'll probably minify it in the future, we also will have a non minified version for people to look through.

A friend analyzed the page and noted that they didn't minify or combine anything.

Therefore, the only valid reason to minify an extension would be #1.

It's hard to believe that a site with that kind of traffic & resources hasn't even bothered to concatenate and minify its JS & CSS.

This is even worse when you minify and concat your JS library dependencies, as most likely your cache headers expire way too fast for them.

If you're worried about bandwidth ditch the background images, minify all of the code, and extend the rain sample as it's the most important content of this site.

Ideally, I'd want every store to reject minified code but at the same time I'd want them to automatically minify extensions while making their full sources available as a separate download.

Better make sure that you have a link to the un-minified version of your site's JS if you minify it and use Meteor, and of course don't try to restrict your users from studying, copying, modifying, and redistributing your site's JS.

A good example in software is a build process - a good system can lint code, test it, uglify it, minify it, push it to version control, watch for changes, reload an output mechanism, clean up a distribution, and push it to a live server if it's working all from a single command.
