Have you noticed on films that they literally cannot have a shot of a cat as the main subject without dubbing in a miaow?

Her Chairman Miaow is incredible and I am sure people would love the prints.

When she was new and very talkative, if the meeting was dull I'd just hold the phone out so she could miaow at people.

Then there were the two siblings that would miaow at me to get food, but then hiss at me for getting too close to the food bowl where they were waiting.

And so in the abstract sense it knows that 'hunger' causes a 'cat' to 'miaow' it will still have no awareness We dont know how awareness works, so we're not in a position to say what has and hasn't got it.
