Lotus 1-2-3 was before Excel but Lotus took a long time to release new versions while Office did not.

So the moral of the story here, kids, is dont use Lotus notes because the minions will revolt.

Companies like Lotus and Porsche make significant money consulting with other car makers just for things like ride and handling.

Excel won if for no other reason than Lotus losing their ability to write new, working software after their first version.

Would it be possible to use Open Office with this or IBM Lotus Symfony?

I Used Lotus Notes at three successive companies, from 1995 through 2010, excluding when I went to college.

Surely I'm not the only one that remembers someone doing this with Lotus 1-2-3 in the 80's...how far we've come.

The only upside is that Lotus 123 was better than edlin.

As part of a business deal we were moved from outlook to lotus, and that was when all hell broke loose.

I would be sympathetic to your plight, but I had a boss who wrote letters in Lotus 123 in the DOS days.

In MS Access, in WordPress, in Sharepoint, in Lotus Approach, etc.

Before, they didn't really innovate but they often came with really good implementations of good ideas other people had (lotus 1-2-3 - excel, wordstar - word, netscape - internet explorer) and took the market.

Even the Lotus Notes "key escrow" they screwed up and used 760-bit RSA.

Lotus 1-2-3 is the textbook example of the benefits and costs of the speed / feature trade-off curve.

Lotus Notes for email is probably the worst piece of crap (I refuse to call it software) I have used.

Lotus Word Pro, WordStar, StarOffice, and countless other lesser used products.
