Even with the limited amount of usability, the community has already made some amazing additions, for example KOReader.

On Android (and jailbroken Kindles) Koreader (open source on github) does a decent job of reflowing even 2-column PDFs.

KOReader works just as easily, and just as well, on my much newer Kobo Clara BW.

I've had my Kobo Clara HD for almost 8 years and I still use it daily with KOReader.

What i did is, jailbreak [1] my Kindle Oasis, and install KOreader [2].

Which we did in the Koreader project using Lua, too - it's just so nice a Language to prototype with.

KOReader allowed me to rotate to landscape and reflow the pdf text.

I'm not unhappy with the built-in reader software, but keep KOReader installed just in case I want or need it.

I jailbroke it, installed KOReader, and wrote a Lua app that called the HomeAssistant API.

It's so easy to install KOReader and it's really repairable.

Switched to a Boox, installed koreader, set up sync thing.

I would suggest to just jailbreak the kindle and automate the workflow with koreader or other "apps"

One thing worth noting: if the "requires a computer" limitation bothers you, KOReader (an open-source reader that runs on Kindle) can fetch RSS feeds and even Wallabag/Readeck content natively over wifi.

It's actually quite good if you "root" the device and install koreader[1](the original developer is the same guy who wrote the vnc viewer for kindle, that was mentioned in this thread), or its librerator fork[2].

Tailscale+Koreader+Kavita on my Kobo Libra Color gives me access to my entire library at all times from anywhere.

Koreader is well supported and has all the features you mention.
