Sorry, but Google Knol does not and probably will never match Wikipedia for sheer scope and variety of content.

I just wanted to say that knol didn't trun out to be the wikipedia killer as google intended.

Interesting story though - have never read a page on Knol before.

A real knol would be a single atomic fact.

Are there any demos of a knol instance/site running?

I guess Google Knol will sooner or later rank above Wikipedia.

I guess paler people today in Northern Europe may have either had ancestors who became darker and then lightened (as per the Knol piece) or moved out of Africa before their skin darkened to deal with the UV/Vitamin D issue.

(I am told by Quora investors that they really didn't try for the inane comparisons to Wikipedia, but that this was made up by the press; much as the comparisons between Wikipedia and Knol were.

The concept of a trademark then only requires demonstrating that in your field (as trademarks are always scope limited: if one came across a laundry-mat named Knol it would not be the same issue) the name carries expectation: that people would recognize it and associate it with a specific party.

Serious question: What happens in three years when Google decides to "sunset" this service like Wave, Labs, Reader, Buzz, Code Search, Knol, etc?

Edit: In answering your question directly, there is Knol.google.com which is very similar to what you are suggesting.

Knol has ~300,000 articles in total, many of which are instructional on specific subtopics.

When they find areas where they can replace offsite content with their own they do so (think Gmail, Youtube, and the ill-fated Knol).
