You do not need intersat links for mobility.

The v1.0 satellites have no intersat links, so the only way to get coverage with them is to connect to a satellite that is close enough to a functioning ground station.

It's more too bad as well because even with someday tens of thousands of Starlink v2.0 and intersat optical mesh and greatly increased cell density, there will still be tight density limits relatively speaking.

But it's not like Starlink is "done", they're continuing to increase sat numbers, build more ground stations, they're prepping to bring online intersat optical links and have no given a firm date for that (it's required for their marine service to get away from coastal waters), they've got much better sats and a solid process on the rocket to launch them.

Intersat (laser links) comms is not available at the moment.
