I'm familiar with the Instacart model in the US, where they do shopping and delivery but do not have any warehouses.

There's not a huge heap of difference between Instacart and bike couriers (except they provide slightly different services), and while couriers are a very useful service they're really not infrastructure.

Considering Instacart now offers its couriers an option to sign up as employees, I'd be curious to see how many take them up on that offer.

Instacart is arguably similar to uber I think they're doing alright, and don't have a "big" substitute.

I don't really see how Instacart can be considered "infrastructure", at best it's a marketplace-driven service.

It's really interesting to think about this in the context of the "1099 economy", especially people whose sole income comes from contractor work for some combination of Lyft, Uber, Postmates, Handy, Instacart, GrubHub, etc.

By the time you are cooking dinner, there is no difference between having an accessible grocery store vs Instacart.
