huitante

Other francophone countries just say octante (Belgium, Canada, some areas of France) or huitante (mainly Switzerland).

We never learned huitante (80), but here are apparently parts of Belgium that use is.

Or replacing quatre-vingt by huitante (and same for 70 and 90) like in Switzerland?

Septante and huitante sounds to much like just slapping -tante to 7 and 8.

I'd love to see this done for French numbers, and no cheating with huitante or nonante.

As far as I know though, this is not the case at all, and septante/huitante/nonante sound strange to actual French people.

It does sound nicer and more natural to me than huitante.

There are dialects of French that don't use that numeral system, Swiss French uses septante, huitante, nonante for 70, 80, 90.

Only Belgium and Switzerland use other words for 70 and 90, and just a few parts of French-speaking Switzerland use huitante for 80, but most say quatre-vingt like in France.

It's true that it sounds a lot more Greek (my native language) than "huitante".

Ha, I only knew of octante, I dd not know there was a "huitante".

Unlike the Swiss, however, Belgians never use huitante for quatre-vingts ("four twenties"), with the use of octante in the local Brussels dialect as being the only exception.

To my knowledge most say “huitante” except for Geneva which says “quatre-vingt”.
