Higher-up in a sentence as a noun

There is so much freakin' incompetence because people who are not qualified are put in position just as a result of being related to some higher-up. This corruption is also transmitted to offspring.

What followed was several weeks of escalation and meetings with higher-up execs trying to convince me to stay with the company, explaining their idea of where the division was headed. The problem was that everyone literally had a different idea of what that was.
