There are a few Marc-Andre Hamelin interviews out there where he describes some of the advantages.

There are other locations in Western Australia that still have living stromatolites; Shark Bay, Hamelin Bay, Lake Thetis.

Leonard Rysdyk's 1993 story, "A Sound Like Angels Singing" retells the story from the POV of the only rat in Hamelin who is tone deaf.

It's "Rattenfänger von Hameln" in german, so the literal translation would be "Rat-Catcher of Hamelin".

The earliest written town records of Hamelin state, in 1348, "It is 100 years since our children left." The German Lüneburg manuscript, dating 1440-1450 "130 children born in Hamelin were led away by a piper [clothed] in many colours to [their] Calvary near the Koppen, [and] lost."

The term "pied piper" comes from an old German tale, "The Pied Piper of Hamelin," about a man with a magic pipe that comes to a town called Hamelin.[a] Without getting into details, the tale ends with the piper playing his magic pipe to hypnotize the town's children, who follow him out of town and into a dark cave, never to be seen again.

Hamelin Pool is more interesting but Lake Thetis is a shorter drive from Perth, if pressed for time.

The names of families and of places in that region northeast of Berlin resemble those from Hameln/Hamelin.
