Vim does support x selection buffers, and gvim should automatically take advantage of these (gvim --version should return +clipboard).

Just because gvim (or emacs) can already do everything anyone has ever conceived of doing with a text editor doesn't mean it can't be improved upon.

You can use arrow keys, Ctrl/Cmd+x/c/v, and your mouse in gvim and macvim just like any other editor.

With gvim or macvim, you could reduce that to two: i and ctrl-c.

In a situation like that, `gvim` would have opened graphically as well.

Yeah, no offense UE, but gvim's already got all your front-page features.

You can start GVim if you just want to show your editor.

I agree; with vim as well, gVim isn't much help to those who still want to use a mouse / don't know the keybindings.

So I switched to using GVim + separate terminal app now.

You should use pentadactyl then;) Close browser windows with:t, Ctrl-w does nothing, clicking in a textarea and doing Ctrl-i opens a gvim window where you can edit your text properly.

Typically, I'd say I have a working set of windows consisting of gvim, iTerm2, a web browser (docs, research, etc.) and Hipchat.

Years later I showed a younger coworker the Windows version of GVim - it comes with an "Easy" mode that makes it behave more like notepad.

But stuff like Emacs or even Atom seems to be more flexible for that purpose, usually all these "<something> in vim" don't really work (or even couldn't be implemented due to inability to show graphics inside the vim (gvim) window).

I'm not sure how relevant search traffic is for usage of an editor, since most people won't be googling most of those (unless it's "gvim installer", etc.) as most are mostly handled through package managers.
