macvim

People who do more than quick edits with Vim on OS X should have a look at MacVim.

Nowadays vim (or MacVim) seems to be the preferred editor, at least among the top rails blogging crowd.

You can use arrow keys, Ctrl/Cmd+x/c/v, and your mouse in gvim and macvim just like any other editor.

Most of the time, that's either 1) a large MacVim window and a terminal or 2) that plus a browser.

Conversely, I wouldn't expect someone who started by using MacVim to be comfortable with the keyboard shortcuts either.

You can change the editor in XCode (clicking on a file in the IDE will open that editor - for example MacVim).

Here are some steps I think will be helpful: 1 ) Install vim with janus and use gvim/macvim.

With gvim or macvim, you could reduce that to two: i and ctrl-c.

Not to take away from the rest of your comment, but Macvim in insert mode works exactly like any other Mac text entry program.

It's just Cmd+space to bring up the search bar and then another another letter or 2 (v = MacVim) and hitting Enter to switch.

I'm sticking with macVim in the near term, but I'd love to play with Atom.

I agree with everything here except the idea that you shouldn't start with MacVIM.
