The problem is that incremental compilation and gradle/android don't mix.

Any problems with the build script are far likely to be with the Gradle vocab than the Groovy grammar, e.g.

Grails 3 at 130Mb bundling all of Gradle now as well as Groovy and Spring seems more like a integrated consulting product than a web framework.

There's many tools to learn and leverage (in java you have ant/ivy, maven, gradle) and can easily take up a fairly large amount of time to organize.

Gradle seems to have the momentum and increasing mindshare, but you probably won't get fired for using maven.

And it's this use of Groovy that made it a good match for Gradle, i.e.

I had the same experience with Gradle's DSL documentation, although having a look at it now, they've dramatically improved it since then.
