In the end, Goertzel (guru in AGI) works again for a financial prediction firm, doesn't he?

Ben Goertzel is using some aspects of his AGI research in mainstream (narrow) AI projects.

Why I built it this way: • Extreme Efficiency: The Goertzel algorithm is O(N) per frequency bin.

Ben Goertzel even started the conference [1] and journal [2] in 2008.

If you want to solve his original problem, detecting treble and bass energy in an audio signal, you might want to read up on the Goertzel algorithm.

How it works under the hood: Instead of running heavy FFTs or ML models, it uses multi-frequency Goertzel filters to specifically measure tonal energy at known drone rotor harmonics (typically ranging from a few hundred Hz to a few kHz).

Also, it's not as widely known as the FFT, but if you know roughly the frequency of interest you can use the Goertzel algorithm to calculate a chosen number of bins around that specific freq and then pick the max of them to find the freq of interest, instead of when using the FFT having to calculate a bunch of bins using a large nFFT in order to get enough freq resolution and then discarding 99% of the results.

That is, Ben Goertzel seems nice, smart and enthusiastic but I can't see him bringing anything new to the "table".
