It supports downloading regions that are listed on Geofabrik [2] and converting them to mbtiles or pmtiles.

I continue to be baffled the geofabrik folks remain the primary way to get a clean-ish OSM shapefile.

My customers who use the geocoding and mapping feature in production are very into data privacy and sovereignity, so they had Geofabrik build them their own infrastructure on premises.

It's easy to imagine how when you build the app, you want to download the Italian region data from geofabrik then process it to extract what you want into your app.

Maybe not, but I can't help but wonder if anybody on my team (I work for an Italian startup that leverages GeoFabrik quite a bit) might have been a bit too trigger happy with some containerisation experiments.

I think we got banned from geofabrik a while ago, and to this day I have no clue what caused the ban; I'd love to be able to understand what it was in order to avoid it in the future.

Geofabrik has a really cool tool that lets you compare various OSM providers, Google, Bing, etc.

It's a resource-efficient and easy to setup project to generate mbtiles or pmtiles from OSM pbf files, which are free to download from Geofabrik.

Also, Geofabrik.de will export it for you for a fee.
