All in all my objection was the you can not treat gravity like fictitious forces which is an understandable and easy to make mistake if you base your reasoning on the simple elevator gedankenexperiment.

Lets do a gedankenexperiment; imagine that you just entered a porcelain shop but your vision is based on arbitrary-sized plastic projectile gun and a (smart)detector wall that detects all projectiles that bumped of a scanned surface within a certain angle.

However I agree that the scenarios where this would be useful to shareholders would be a bit weird, but it's just a Gedankenexperiment where we assume that for some reason the shareholders already think this is a good idea.

It's worth remembering that Einstein (in a manner of speaking) pictured his theories before turning them into mathematics, and made frequent uses of the gedankenexperiment (thought experiment) approach, in which he would imagine a physical embodiment for an idea to see how it held up.

That said, I'm not opposed to English stealing words from foreign languages when it makes sense, for example the German zeitgeist is a wonderful expressive replacement for the spirit of the times, similarly translating say gedankenexperiment is straightforward but we don't do so as the word has a rich contextual meaning for physicists both in English and other languages.

I'd say the context in which I most frequently hear the phrase "thought experiment" (or "Gedankenexperiment") is physics!

This is an interesting definition of "reality", and hyperloop is a deeply unserious Elon Musk Gedankenexperiment that's only given column inches because of the deeply unserious nature of what passes for journalism among the lickspittle shoeshine boys of Silicon Valley wannabes.

That's a hard problem - I haven't done any "fiddle" but I've spent a lot of time doing Gedankenexperiment and haven't come up with anything I believe is remotely applicable.
