If you're in an evil state, not counting NY, the Garand is an eminently practical weapon.

C is not quite as good as the Garand is, although I'm not sure what I'd use as an alternative.

From a mechanical action standpoint, the AK looks more like the American M1 Garand than it does the MP43/44.

The Garand was only unusual in that the clip was inserted into the weapon and not removed prior to firing.

If the M1 Garand is C, the M14 has to be C++: similar in many respects but with better (ammo) encapsulation.

Almost no modern weapons use clips; the last popular one was the M1 Garand (standard issue US infantry rifle in WW2).

As a former M1 Garand owner (replaced it with a lighter weapon due to my RSI weakened arms), your link is to my knowledge correct.

The exceptions would be a few older military rifles, like maybe an M1.30 carbine, an M1 Garand rifle, or an old British Lee-Enfield 303 rifle.

Normal Garand match ammo, at least the typical Federal.308 (don't know about.30-06) Sierra MatchKing match loads, are supposed to have real difficultly reaching 1,000 yards.

When I bought my M1 Garand (a lend-lease giveback from Greece, made in February of '45) the case of ammo I bought with it is older than I am.

These days I shoot a Model 70 Winchester in.308 (it and the Garand were both my grandfather's.) Since this is HN: the M-14/M1A is like Lisp, elegant, but accessible only to a few.

The 3rd most recent gun I bought was a M1 "Get Off My Lawn" Garand made a few months after Pearl Harbor (and boy does a part of me wish I hadn't sold that masterpiece of then cutting edge technology to buy a lighter rifle more suitable for my RSI injured arms).

I'd say in vast majority of this country, if someone (particularly Jewish, or as in the authors' case mixed-race) saw somebody lighting their property on fire in shape of an unmistakable hate symbol and reached for the family heirloom M1 Garand (that their grandfather used against other fans of this particular "symbol"), that would the very example of a "justifiable homicide"/"castle doctrine".

Compare this to the weapons used by the US over this period, viz., the Krag, Springfield, and M1 Garand---especially the latter!

Whoever put together the requirements for the artillery system, the M1 Garand, the Fletcher class destroyer, and the Flying Fortress was out to build world-beating weapons.
