gallantry

The gallantry and defense of children is because men that are in charge are predominantly straight and have children. Not everything is a charade.

This story is always portrayed as a failure, and the soldiers as "fought with honor and gallantry". They were invading another country and killed hundreds of thousands of people.

Accounting for the "perceived gallantry" of these motivators I'd call that a statistical wash, but the article title "Want to hire the best programmers? Pay them the highest salaries."

There's gallantry and bravery and … nobility. There's also ugliness and cruelty and murder.

I disagree that bravery and gallantry are qualities of war - they're human qualities that war sometimes reveals. A man's bravery doesn't lend nobility to war, in my opinion.

Soldiers in war were never as restrained as period movies would have us believe, so imagine being boarded or invaded by a desperate privateer crew with not even the semblance of honor and soldierly gallantry to moderate their behavior. Ahem.

When you piece those explicit details together, the real problem is that it deals a degree of harm to the perception of gallantry, duty and honor of service. It's pretty much impossible to pat a chemical burn on the back, and say "there, there, thanks for defending the country" but, you can still pull that off, when sharing the room with an amputee that lost a limb to ballistics.

It's really rather sad, how toxic and evil the EU has become under that shiny veneer of fake gallantry and suave confidence. It is a shame that the EU was form the start imbued with an existential and systematic flaw that turned it into the authoritarian, anti-democratic, anti-self-governance body that loathes actual diversity that inherently requires separation.

The warriors Mr. Marlantes speaks of have done nothing of the sort, despite their gallantry in particular battle. We have allowed our true enemies, both foreign and domestic, to embroil us in foreign entanglements, abuse our military might, and through the permanent alliances our first president warned us about, undermined our national system of economic protectionism and our uniquely American philosophy of individualism.
