erdgeschoss

We have to deal with the electricity company with designations like Erdgeschoss Links (ground floor, left).

I feel that the ground floor is similar: it's got a number assigned to it, but everybody uses a different word, instead (parterre in French, Erdgeschoss in German,...).

For my flat in a small block, it's "Erdgeschoss rechts" or EGR, in the contract or for the electricity.

We call the floor above that "erstes Geschoss" or "erstes Obergeschoss", whereas that would be the second floor in English, but we never say "nulltes Geschoss", always Erdgeschoss.

E.g.: P2, P1, 4, 3, 2, 1, E, U1, U2 P2 and P1 would be the car park, E would be Erdgeschoss = parterre = ground floor, U1 and U2 would be “underground” (below ground).
