My partner loves duvets. It works really well.

Put a duvet over it and leave it alone. It's nearly Darwin award stuff

18 + a normal duvet is perfection. Cool enough for blankets, but not so cold that I feel uncomfortable.

Do you use blankets/a duvet? Have you a thermometer to monitor internal temperature in your sleeping space?

This has including me having the "audacity" to put on a duvet cover at 11pm on a Tuesday. I'm not sure he realizes who has the power in this relationship since I live above him but anyway...

I've a tendency to duvet and hope the world goes away. Of course, it's hard to motivate yourself to get outdoors when you feel like that - I was actually told to by a counsellor and had to report back to her, so I felt I had to do it.

The classic technique for vocal capture with zero budget is to put a duvet over your head while recording. Failing this, you can pin the duvet to the walls of a wardrobe or something and sit inside that.

When I'm in bed I have to keep both arms above the duvet, if I don't there is a very high chance I will have sleep paralysis. I believe it's related to heat. If I get too warm it is triggered and keeping my arms above the duvet prevents this.

I like my sheets tucked in, and half the time I don't use my duvet, it's just too hot. And I would still have to make my bed, pulling the top sheet and the duvet up takes like 5 extra seconds. I agree that bedding could use improvements, but I think it will take more than attaching the top sheet to the duvet to fix it.

The typical alternative to a blanket + top sheet is not just a blanket, but a duvet with a duvet cover, that is just as washable and not much different from "just a sheet". And the bonus is you don't need to do anything to prevent it from bunching.

Is 18 degrees assuming a fairly warm duvet covers / blankets? When I was staying hostels the dorms would sometimes be air conditioned and only a sheet would be provided for cover, and I struggled to sleep in anything colder than 21, and I'd have had it up to 22-24 if I could.

I understand the not wanting to tuck the top sheet, but I don't understand the lack of a top sheet underneath the duvet. I don't think it's a US thing either, I grew up in Eastern Europe and the top sheet has the important hygienic role of protecting the duvet from getting dirty.

That trip turned out to be my worst European trip ever -- most of my other memories of it involve shivering under an expensive feather duvet and trying not to infect anyone when I dragged myself to meetings. Seth let me have a positive memory of that trip.

Last night I thought about my alarm going off, feeling the cold outside the duvet and having an overwhelming desire to roll over and go back to sleep and visualized myself just getting straight out of bed. I don't see how tacking the flat sheet to the duvet cover helps--yes, it keeps the sheet from getting wadded at the foot of the bed, but you lose the ability to throw off the duvet and keep the flat sheet over you in the middle of the night. I guess I could unsnap the two pieces, but that takes somewhat more consciousness and cognitive skill than I generally possess while sleeping.

The article author mentions sleeping under a duvet encased in a sheet; perhaps that serves the same role as does a sheet between body and comforter -- I assume the encasing sheet he's talking about is removable for washing in the same way what we call a duvet cover would be.

Get a better mic, make a pop shield out of an old pair of tights and a wire coathanger, fill the room with soft furnishings, make yourself a ghetto isolation booth by putting a duvet over your head and climbing into your wardrobe, etc. That last one might sound silly but many international-pop-career-launching albums have been recorded like that.
