Henry Dunant (born Jean-Henri Dunant; 8 May 1828 – 30 October 1910), also known as Henri Dunant, was a Swiss humanitarian, businessman and social activist.

In 1901 he received the first Nobel Peace Prize together with Frédéric Passy, making Dunant the first Swiss Nobel laureate.

During a business trip in 1859, Dunant was witness to the aftermath of the Battle of Solferino in modern-day Italy.

The previously announced transatlantic cable, Dunant cable has 12 fiber pairs and a 250Tbps design capacity.

A modern submarine cable, like Google's new Dunant transantlantic cable, has 250 Tbps of bandwidth.

Indeed there hasn't been WW3 yet but we had WW1 and 2 after Dunant did his thing.

As an example the Dunant transatlantic long haul Google put in place in 2018 (went live in 2020) has 12 pairs (24 fibers).

Henry Dunant witnessed this sort of thing in 1859 in the aftermath of the Battle of Solferino, and went on to found the Red Cross because of it.

As far as I know Dunant had taken no part in the Sonderbund War- he was a student in Geneva at the time- and neither had anyone else on the committee apart from Dufour.

While General Dufour (who had commanded the Federal forces in the Sonderbund War) was one of the five-man founding committee, the event that precipitated the founding of the Red Cross was the visit of Henri Dunant to the battlefield at Solferino immediately after the battle.

He was one of the Henry Dunant's "Committee of the Five".

The 1864 Geneva Convention was based on Dunant's idea for an independent organisation to care for wounded soldiers.
