He claims to have based the Dothraki on the Huns, Mongols and other steppe people, yet they behave nothing at all like them.

I'm currently reading a book written by the guy who created the Dothraki and High Valerian languages for Game of Thrones.

For Dothraki you really just need something really alien sounding.

Peterson (the creator of conlangs in Dune as well as Dothraki and High Valyrian in GoT) said that it was actually just English, but warped and modified by the sound team.

Game of Thrones did a fairly good job on this, with characters from different parts of the world often looking like it, aside from some issues with casting extras (pasty looking Irish Dothraki for example).

That's cheating on a huge scale if you think about it a little, so why not extend the cheating a little and re-use Lithuanian (say) or some other natural language as a proxy for Dothraki rather than going to all the trouble of inventing a whole new freaking language.

The problem is that the war was over when Dani lands with three full dragons, the Dothraki, and the Unsullied but the series wasn't.

My understanding is Westeros is based on the War of the Roses period in England, but the world is still built with other regions and non-white cultures (Dothraki = obvious not-Mongolians, etc...).
