Every boomtown in history had the same things happening, pricing out its original population (if one existed).

That would imply that immediately before the civil war the south was a boomtown and the slaveless north was a rustbelt.

The US may not be a boomtown but it has opportunity to live a comfortable life if you can add value.

E.g., University towns having plenty of great Dover prints on Algebraic Topology versus my mid-Michigan industrial boomtown mostly having a huge Spiritual/Christianity section.

I think in a state with a single boomtown(Seattle) this goes doubly true.

Or pretty much any extractive industry boomtown anywhere.

It'll never be the blue collar manufacturing boomtown it was, but all the auto companies will continue hiring engineers.

I'm a fan, but it's ironic to hear about this on the day that I discovered that Boomtown, one of my favorite Houston coffee shops, has switched away from Square to Revel.
