Perhaps it works better if you combine it with beetroot juice (which contains a lot of betaine).

I have a genetic tweak to that allows me to raise and lower tonic dopamine levels using betaine.

Been reflux free for years now and have better GI motility even when I don't take betaine HCl.

I eventually started taking betaine HCL, which helps when I have reflux or pain in the stomach.

Started taking the betaine when I went on carnivore diet and saw undigested meat in the stools.

TMG (betaine) utilizes an alternate methylation pathway and for me was life changing.

I found digestive enzymes with Ox Bile to be best and the Betaine I look for minimum 350mg Betaine HCL and minimum 50mg of Pepsin as that appears important to managing symptoms.

Taking Betaine HCL and digestive enzymes before each meal has not only completely eradicated all digestive problems but also massively helped my mindset as a result.

For example, beet pulp pellets, raffinate, betaine, molasses are all by products of sugar production and are used for animal feed extensively.

- Avoid soaps and shampoos which produce a lot of foam (avoid sodium lauryl sulfate and cocamidopropyl-betaine).

This is just anecdotal, but I've had problems with heartburn for years and am having great succes with betaine hcl + pepsin supplements.

I actually took Betaine HCI supplements to fix digestive issues after PPIs.

A simple way to test this theory would be to get a "Betaine HCL with Pepsin" supplement and take it with meals to see if that helps.

But it is possible that this effect is specific to me and maybe other people who are "under-methylators" (which I think is a somewhat pseudo-scientific concept, but it led me to try betaine and I got results).

Betaine also has some interesting studies around mitigating intestinal permeability, among lots of other things.

Q10/Quercetin/Pterostilben/Bromelain/Betaine/NAC/R ALA/DCA might be worth considering depending on what other issues you face.
