We did do bare-knuckle, few-rules sparring in Merpati Putih and it was legit my favorite thing to do. We hit and got hit hard, but I didn't get near the amount of sparring time I wanted.

My favourite metaphor for Rust is that it's like a friendly bare-knuckle fist-fight with the compiler. It's not as user-friendly as, say, Elm, but it's streets ahead of Haskell's errors.

No shit you'll hate your friends if you're seeing them get into bare-knuckle political arguments with your uncle or the algorithm only surfaces their fun vacation pics when you're particularly depressed. At the risk of sounding totally full of it, I, as a longtime FB-deleter, am experiencing none of the problems the author describes in the last half.

* In bare-knuckle negotiation with a client who is just being a good businessperson and determined to get the lowest rate possible, you can strip off features from their requirements, down to the minimum they could conceivably accept and still call the project a business win, and negotiate over features instead of rate. If you do all of these things, you're rustproofing.

You also wouldn't hit someone in the head with your fist if you know what you are doing because you would probably shatter a knuckle, hence, historically, bare-knuckle bouts were about slowing and draining your opponents energy until they couldn't get up from heavy body blows than knockouts.
