Look at the fine details along the edge of an awning? what signage is there?

If you push it, it lights a red light on the end of the awning over the sidewalk out front. Back in the day, a taxi could notice it and stop.

For that matter, why not put the panels over the path, on an awning? Thin film panels could be built into tarps that are stretched over the roadway between anchored poles.

While I can't find the image online earlier than 2010, there's an ieee research paper titled TanDEM-X for High-Resolution SAR Interferometry from 2007, so it certainly could predate the awning.

That's odd, but you can see in the SAR photo that there isn't even an outline of the awning, nor the golf carts under it, nor the columns that hold the awning up, but there are trees which aren't there in the photos from the ground.

Forgive me for derailing a technical thread, but I want to comment on the author's description of the building I work in: A vast arc of glass with an upswept front awning, it is a kind of monument to the difficulty of predicting the future. Saarinen imagined that transformative ideas would emerge from groups of scientists working in meeting areas, where recliners and coffee tables still sit beside soaring windows.
