Depends on which JVM, PTC and Aicas do alright with their real time GCs for embedded deployment.

You might be interested that Aicas is driving the new real time specification for Java.

PTC and Aicas aren't Java on smartcards, they are Java on high integrity computing where human lives might be at stake.

Both Aicas and Atego focus on the embedded market (don't know about WebSphere RT).

Easy, just use RoboVM or Aicas > Or many embedded devices for that matter.

Hunt about where Aicas fell short for our specific use case, and in the very near term it won't be usable for us.

The JVMs to consider are IBM's WebSphere Real Time[1], Aicas JamaicaVM[2] (their front page shows examples of use in medical devices) and Atego (formerly Aonix) Perc[3].

Some of the most interesting -- and most important -- ones are made by companies you've probably never heard of, like Aicas and Atego that make hard realtime JVMs for use in avionics, medical devices and other safety-critical systems.

One of the founding members of Aicas is the author of "Hard Realtime Garbage Collection in Modern Object Oriented Programming Languages" book, which was done as part of his PhD.

The folks on embedded get to play with PTC and Aicas.

I don't know, but I guess enterprises do trust Aicas, Aonix, IBM, Excelsior and quite a few others.
