The slides are informative and all support the content of the talk. The talk isn't a thinly veiled vendor pitch for the presenter's consultancy or company.

In seriousness, though, this is not a very informative article. It essentially boils down to "I learned a little Perl after college, but didn't like the syntax.

I found the article interesting, informative, and relevant.

And it's true some talks are mostly inspirational, with little informative value - we usually put a couple in the lineup as a breather. Third, TED is about cross-pollination of ideas.

To me, the site has gotten a lot less informative and interesting since the votes have been hidden. The voting numbers really help me understand what people are thinking: how strong the consensus is, how much support there is for dissenting opinions.

A meta-comment: I'm really pleased to see an article like this at the top of HN. It's informative and side-steps both the marketing ******** about the metro interface and all of the wailing and gnashing of teeth that metro has engendered. More like this please.

Their reviews are incredibly detailed, and yet they still manage to make extremely interesting, short, and informative video reviews for many products. Add to that the fact that the site, at least to me, is absolutely gorgeous, and I think I've found my new favorite gadget site.

In fact I think this would be more informative as a description of rainbow tables, so here goes: Okay, so Bob in principle can write down a lookup table, but there's a problem -- that lookup table is going to be as long as the dictionary! What if he has to take it somewhere, or if he wants to make a copy for someone?

For me it will be very sad that I cannot read the lone, often very informative, comment to a story that will never make it to the front page but that nonetheless I and other lurkers want to see any response at all to the story. This one isn't showcased so strongly - this isn't a pressing issue by any measure - but they still took the time to respond to it and make a brief, informative, and actually engaging video about it, without some external "we screwed up, sorry" event.
